Meet Our Team:
Chet is a Certified Public Accountant with over 30 years of experience working with individuals, as well as small and large businesses assisting them with their financial, accounting, and tax needs. Chet began his career in the Atlanta office of Price Waterhouse (now Price Waterhouse Coopers) and spent over five years in the audit and assurance practice serving businesses throughout the Southeast. After leaving PWC, Chet spent the next fifteen years in various finance positions with Atlanta companies, serving in the roles of Controller, VP of Finance and Chief Financial Officer. In January 2008, Chet fulfilled his desire to return to public accounting and joined the firm of Lewis & Company and most recently became the Managing Partner of the firm which is now known as Burge & Associates, PC.
Chet is a member of the Georgia Society of CPAs and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is a graduate of Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC with a bachelors degree in accounting. Chet currently serves on the board and is chair of the audit committee of Tandem Bank. He is also an active member of the Decatur Rotary. Chet, his wife Lee Beth, and their four children are longtime residents of Decatur, GA where they are very active in their church, local schools and community.
Chad is a Certified Public Accountant with over 12 years of experience in taxation. Chad has assisted individuals, as well as small and large businesses with tax and accounting related matters. Prior to joining Burge & Associates in early 2016, he worked in Raleigh and Miami with a large regional public accounting firm. Chad is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He graduated from Bob Jones University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting in 2004. Prior to starting his career in public accounting, Chad spent three years living and working in China.
Sarah has been with Burge & Associates since August 2010. Since starting as the firm administrator she has worked in almost every department in the firm; including tax, audit, and accounting. Sarah now manages the firm’s growing bookkeeping and accounting practice. In this capacity she serves to provide training and consultation services to the firms many clients, while mentoring and training various staff members.
Sarah graduated from Georgia College & State University’s Honors & Scholars Program in 2000. She attended Georgia State University for post-baccalaureate studies in accounting and business from 2013-2016, and completed her CPA licensure in 2018. She is a member of the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants (AICPA) and Georgia Society of CPAs.
Prior to joining the firm, Sarah worked as an independent bookkeeper for 10 years working with a wide range of small businesses and non-profit organizations. She also took a break from the business world for several years to work as a professional baker.
Tom joined the firm having gained years of experience at a variety of public accounting firms, ranging from a Big Four firm down to small boutique firms. He enjoys daily interactions with small business owners, high-net worth individuals, and retirees alike, and looks forward to being able to meet your tax preparation needs. Tom graduated from Bob Jones University in 1996 and is married with 5 children. During his free time he is actively involved with Passion City Church, spending time with his family, or attending Atlanta United matches.
Stephanie is a Certified Public Accountant who is passionate about helping individuals and businesses make sense of the continuously evolving tax code. She has been working in regional public accounting for the past seven years and brings a wide range of tax knowledge to the team.
Originally from the Florida Panhandle, Stephanie is a graduate from the Florida State University with a Masters of Accounting in Tax (MAcc) and Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. When she isn’t working, you can find Stephanie traveling the world, spending time with family and friends and loving on her dog, Yogi.
Karen is a Certified Public Accountant with over 25 years of experience working with small businesses and individuals on their tax needs. Karen began her career at Ernst & Young in Atlanta, working with owner operated companies in their Entrepreneurial Tax Consulting and Compliance practice. When she left public accounting to raise her family, she took over the bookkeeping of several family owned real estate businesses. She is currently the CFO of six family entities, managing bookkeeping, cash flow, payroll and taxes. Karen joined Burge & Associates in February 2015 as a seasonal tax preparer.
Karen is a member of the Georgia Society of CPAs and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. She is a graduate of the University of Georgia with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (BBA) and a Masters of Accountancy in Tax (MAcc-Tax). Karen and her family live in Dunwoody, GA where they are active in their church youth music programs and scouting.
Ramon is a Decatur native with over 14 years of bookkeeping experience. He is a graduate of The University of Georgia, Michigan State University, and Kennesaw State University; where at the latter he completed his MBA focusing on accounting and finance courses. Before joining Burge & Associates, Ramon worked for almost 7 years for an airport concessonaire preparing financials for various restaurant franchises. Away from the office Ramon is an avid sports fan, and also enjoys traveling and cooking with his wife, Amanda.
Jenny is an Atlanta native who joined Burge & Associates in July 2019 with a background in office administration in both the private and nonprofit sectors. She is a graduate of Georgia State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Master of Public Administration (MPA) with a concentration in nonprofit management. Jenny currently resides in the suburb of Snellville where she and her husband are raising their identical twin boys. Away from the office, Jenny is a photographer and enjoys documenting the lives of her family and others.
Sharon joined the tax staff at Burge & Associates in 2018. Her road to accounting was not typical as she spent the last 30 years as a teacher. In her “second act,” she studied Financial Accounting and Individual Income Tax and found a perfect match with the detail and organization required in tax preparation. Sharon and her husband lived in the Atlanta area, but currently reside in Cypress, Texas. They have a daughter and son at Texas A&M.
Steve comes from a background of unlikely combined experience, including residential subcontracting, building and warehouse management, small business ownership, and bookkeeping. His experience in many fields has made him a well-rounded professional who balances attention to detail and a hard work ethic with a consultative touch. He is currently enrolled in courses to complete his accounting degree. Other interests include home renovation and spending time with his family.
Heather joined Burge & Associates in February 2015, returning home to Atlanta after 15 years working as a financial professional in the San Francisco Bay Area. She began her career as an independent bookkeeper and in 2007 she transitioned into non-profit accounting at the Institute on Aging. There she acted as private trustee, executor, power of attorney for finance, and court appointed conservator; in 2010 she sat for the state and national exams and became a National Certified Guardian and CA Licensed Professional Fiduciary. She is excited to be working in public accounting with Burge & Associates and is currently pursuing an advanced degree.
Ayana joined Burge & Associates in July 2016. She moved from New Jersey in 2010 to finish high school and in 2015, she graduated from Southern Crescent Technical College with an Associate’s of Applied Science in Accounting. Ayana also holds a Bookkeeper Certification from the National Association of Certified Public Bookkeepers. She is looking to go back to school to further her education in accounting and take the CPA exam in the future. She is very excited about learning and gaining first-hand experience in accounting here at Burge & Associates.
Eva joined Burge and Associates in July 2019 after recently moving back to Atlanta to be closer to her family. She holds a BA from University of Massachusetts Boston and has a long background working in the restaurant industry. In 2016 Eva helped open a food stall in New Orleans and subsequently was introduced to the task of bookkeeping. This introduction led to a newfound career interest to pursue. Here at Burge and Associates, Eva is inspired to learn the ins and outs of public accounting while combining her knowledge gained in hospitality. Away from the office, Eva enjoys rock climbing, bike riding, and exploring the range of happenings in Atlanta.
Amber joined Burge & Associates in September, 2020. A proud Texas native, she moved to Decatur in 2014 and has enjoyed her new life here in Georgia ever since. She finished her BBA in Marketing from Mercer University in 2015 and after working a few years in the accounting field, decided to pursue further education in accounting. In 2020 she graduated from Mercer University with a Masters in Accountancy (MAcc). Currently, she is undertaking the challenge of completing the CPA Exams and having her CPA Certification by the end of 2021. The knowledge and experience gained at B&A will be paramount in reaching her goals of becoming a CPA and furthering her career. When Amber is not working or studying for the CPA, she enjoys any number of hobbies: reading, watching any new favorite series, gaming, talking, writing, going to concerts, napping with her cats, playing with her dog, hiking, or traveling.
After the completion of many years in the home education field, Becky returned to the workforce as administrative assistant with Burge & Associates in 2018. Besides home education, she served in various administrative assistant positions in veterinary and college offices, as well as a teacher’s assistant for a private school. After living several years in Gwinnett county, she and her husband, Mark, moved inside the perimeter of Atlanta and are enjoying all that city life has to offer, as well as living closer to their family in midtown.
